Telephone headsets are essential pieces of equipment in many offices today, especially since multitasking is more prevalent than ever. Monaural vs. binaural
One of the first decisions you'll have to make is whether you want your phone headset to be monaural or binaural. What's the difference? A monaural headset is one that has a single earpiece and microphone. These are by far the most common "office" phone headset. Monaural headsets are best for environments where the wearer needs to be able to hear the phone call, but also needs to be aware of what's going on around them. A binaural headset is one that has a pair of headphones along with a microphone. These headsets are best for when you want an employee to be able to focus fully on a phone conversation, and communication with other workers isn't necessary.
Noise-canceling vs. traditional
For offices with noisy backgrounds, it might be best for a company to invest in noise canceling headsets. These headsets don't necessarily cancel noise coming in, but noise going out. A caller on the other end won't hear the clattering of keys or other office background chatter, but only the conversation from your employee. Noise-canceling headsets do cost more than traditional ones, so consider if it's worth the extra price.
Headband vs. ear hook
These headsets are pretty much exactly what the name implies. The ear hook type is almost always monaural, with a simple loop that attaches the headset to the wearer's ear. An ear hook headset is usually more comfortable, but it's a little more unstable as well, and can be easily knocked off. The headband style of headset features a band that straps over the head, and can be monaural or binaural. Headband styles are more firmly attached to the head, but can become uncomfortable after extended wear.
